The Royal British Legion and PoppyScotland have joined forces with Twitter to launch a new poppy emoji to coincide with this year’s Poppy Appeal.
The symbol will accompany various hashtags that are being used to promote this year’s Remembrance events and it will be available until 15 November.
According to Poppyscotland, the emoji will appear automatically to accompany the hashtags #BehindThemAlways, #GetYourPoppy, #LestWeForget, #RemembranceSunday and #TwoMinuteSilence.
This year marks the 100th anniversary of the first official Armistice Day commemorations; which took place in 1919, a year after hostilities came to a close on the Western Front.
Gordon Michie, head of fundraising at Poppyscotland, told the Third Sector website: “Engaging different audiences in different ways during the Poppy Appeal and Remembrance period is vitally important to Poppyscotland.
“We especially hope young people will make use of the poppy emoji because, in order to uphold the memories of those who have gone before, it is vital we pass on the torch of remembrance to the next generation.”
