Her Majesty’s Courts and Tribunals Service (HMCTS) last week introduced new grant of representation application forms for legal professionals.

The forms deal with applying for grants of letters of administration, applying for a grant of probate and applying for a caveat. They take the place of the statement of truth, and can be downloaded via the gov.uk website.

Once completed, the forms will be lodged at probate registries as usual, and will in due course be sent to courts and tribunal service centres.

HMCTS receives around 170,000 grant of representation applications from the professional sector per year and the service is encouraging probate professionals to make their applications online to ensure the process is as efficient as possible, especially during the current coronavirus crisis.

Probate registries will accept both the new forms and the old-style statements of truth until 20 April. After this time, any statements of truth will be returned with a request that a new form is completed.
